About us

Porocarb® THE synthetic tunable porous carbon from Heraeus Battery Technology GmbH.

Battery cell manufacturers are using Porocarb as a hard carbon additive (cathode/anode) to optimize the performance of lithium-ion-batteries. In addition, it is used as protecting layer in ASSB and host/core material for active material. Our different Porocarb grades are tailored to the need of your specific cell design.

As additive, Porocarb reduces cell temperature at high current discharge, boosts driving range via an improved C-rate discharge performance, boosts pulse power performance and enhances cycle life. Furthermore, Porocarb can mediate the processability of the slurry by enhancing the rheology and dispersion properties. We serve all lithium-ion battery applications e.g., automotive, power tools, drones, and ESS.

Heraeus Battery Technology GmbH is part of the Heraeus group, a globally leading family-owned technology company, headquartered in Hanau, Germany.

Products & Services

Heraeus Porocarb® is a tunable hard carbon additive to boost electrode performance.

It reduces cell temperature at high current discharge. It extends the driving range via an improved C-rate discharge capacity. It also improves pulse power performance and prolongs cycle life. In addition, Porocarb addresses various energy storage systems, in particular lithium-ion batteries and can be tailored to the need of the specific cell design.

Porocarb is an innovative platform of synthetic macro-porous carbon materials. The single particles contain a well-defined network of interconnected macro-pores which can be filled with liquids, gases or solids. The pores serve as reservoirs, transport routes, filters or anchor points. Porocarb can be tuned in terms of particle size, pore size, pore volume and specific surface area to exactly fit the application.

L1810

L1810 composites of single particle, which contains a well-defined network of interconnected macro-pores in each particle. L1810 behaves as heat exchanger when electrolyte filled inside the pores. Combined with the better thermal coefficient of Porocarb than classic carbon black, L1810 reduces the self-heating rate of the battery during discharge than that for the reference cell with carbon black only. L1108/L1108s

L1108 and L1108s have the open well-connected network of macropores, which improve Li+ transport, leading to a better spatial homogeneity of electrochemical reaction and lower overpotential in the cathode. Therefore, L1108 and L1108s improve the C-rate performance, extend the driving range and prolong the cycling life of the batteries. L1804

L1804 contains rather small particles, which fits for the small active material (e.g. LFP). L1804 acts as electrolyte reservoir and ensure the homogeneous electrochemical reaction in the electrode. Thus, L1804 can improve the C-rate performance, extend the driving range and prolong the cycling life of the LFP cells.
